Pastor “Bike” Freed

September 2, 2008 Tim A. Leave a comment

I recently requested prayer and that you sign a petition to the Chinesse Government to have this pastor freed from jail in China.

I just received an email from the PersecutionBlog informing us that he has been free.  The following is the email:

PASTOR BIKE HAS BEEN FREED!!!

Picture_43Praise the Lord God Almighty who is worthy to save!  And this HE did again :)

Here is the latest news regarding Pastor Bike and we want to thank all of you for signing our petition!!

We just received word from Pastor “Bike” that he has been released from Chinese custody. Pastor Bike was in good spirits and extended thanks to all those who prayed and were willing to sign the petition for his release. He believed this petition drive was part of the reason the officials released him along with his wife and co-worker.

We will still deliver a printed copy of all the signatures collected to the Chinese embassy next week, along with a THANK YOU LETTER to express appreciation for the release of our Christian brothers and sister. Continue to add your voice, and encourage your friends, so that we can let the Chinese government know how many Christians care about persecution in China.

We will have a full update next week.

Praise God for answered prayer!

Thank you for your prayers and for signing the petition.

Pastor Welded in His Own Home

February 11, 2008 Tim A. Leave a comment

In place that is no longer so far and so distant, due to modern technology, there is a pastor being held as  prisoner in his own home.  The police have welded his door shut, so as to keep him from “being a terror in their society”?  “To keep him from robbing, killing, and vandalizing the area in which he lives”?  No!  Neither of these are true.

Pastor Hua Huiqi has been is guilty of preaching the gospel message of Jesus Christ without the approval of the government of China.  He has been charged with “Disturbing the social order”, and the police have continued to harass  his family too.

This is taking place a few short minutes of walking time from the very place where the Olympics will soon be held.  The Olympics where many nations of the world come together with their best athletes compete in many and various competitions, and winners are awarded gold medals for first place, silver medals for second place, and bronze medals for third place.  Nations participating in these events are mostly received in a friendly fashion.  The Nations participating also arrive with words of praise for the host nation, and offer words of appreciation.  The events are also televised by satellite around the world.  I wonder how popular these programs would be if Christians refused to sponsor them.

We sponsor by watching them, and purchasing the products advertised during the Olympic games.  As a Christian we must do what the Spirit of God leads us to do, and do it with all our heart.  There are many Christians who will be in China, as guests, and witnessing for the glory of Jesus, but even that is going to be kept at a bare minimal due to the laws of China.  While there may be many Christians who go there to be witnesses for Christ we need to be praying for those Christians like Pastor Hua who live in the midst of the lion, and the beast of this communist government which is not friendly to Christianity, unless they can control your church through the “Three-Self Patriotic Movement” church which is the state church of China.

In a special report by Voice of the Martyrs called, “Ten Minutes from the Olympic Village” we hear the story of Pastor Hua.

“Pastor Hua Huiqi, 45, know exactly how the government feels about his faith.  For the last 10 years, Hua has been arrested several times a year by the Public Security Bureau (PSB) for “disturbing the social order.”  This past year, police have harassed his family as well.

‘Hua and his 60-member house church  have a ministry of assisting poor and vulnerable people in southwest Beijing.  Authorities target Hua because he refuses to register his congregation as a state church, as his ministry would be controlled by the government.  He would be unable to do any Christian work outside the church building.  He remains active in the “illegal” house church.  “It is better to follow God than the government,” says Hua”

There are a few people who have gone to China and come back reporting that there is religious freedom in China.  Is there religious freedom when the government must be in control?  NO!!!  That is bondage.  The Three-Self Patriotic movement is not free to practice its faith, it must follow the government guidelines.  We must admire and support Pastor Hua in his stand for Christ.   He is the one, and his church and the others who are in accord with him; who are truly free.

The government has taken much of Pastor Hua’s possessions, and they continue to imprison him.  After a time of imprisonment they released him.  Hear is more from that Special Report:

“On July 25, 2007, Hua was released, 20 pounds lighter from six months in poor  prison conditions.  PSB officers continued to come to his house, demanding names and telephone numbers of the house church Christians in China.  They wanted to find out how the churches kept in contact.  The officers also commanded him to lure Pastor Bob Fu of China Aid Association to China so they could arrest him.  They threatened Hua, saying, “We are detaining your mother as a hostage.  Everything depends on your actions.”  Hua steadfastly refused.’

‘At 11 p.m. on October 1, Hua was arrested again and threatened at the police station.  The next day, they took him to his father’s house and told him he was not to leave.  They welded the front door shut and stationed more than 30 policemen on the roof, courtyard and surrounding areas of the house.  They cut off electricity and did not allow anyone to visit him.”

How can we support a nation which offers no freedom.  When there is no freedom of religion there is no freedom at all.  Someone or many may be thinking, “Well if he would just get in line and register his church then he would be free.”  Folks, that is not freedom.  That is, in fact bondage.  When a government requires registration of its churches, and then orders them how they can conduct their “business”, that is not freedom, but complete government intervention and control.

May God be with Pastor Hua of Beijing, China; and all the Christians who are standing in faith of Jesus Christ.  Those are the ones who are seeing many souls come to Christ.  It is said in the Special Report that, “An estimated 10,000 to 30,000 Chinese turn to Christ every day.”  It sounds like there is a great work of God going on in China.

Let’s remember to always pray for our brothers and sisters in Christ who are suffering in their preaching the gospel message of Jesus Christ.  Let’s also pray that we who are not being persecuted in the same fashion, that we too will be strong in faith, believe the gospel is the only way of salvation, and then proclaim it boldly wherever we may be.  May God help us.

Pray for the Christians in Myanmar

October 3, 2007 T. A. Blankenship 1 comment

The place formerly known as Burma has been in the news recently with protestors marching for freedom in their country.  Let’s pray for these brothers and sisters in Christ and for the freedom of the Country that many may come to faith in Jesus Christ.

MYANMAR
VOM Calls for Prayer for Christians in Myanmar – VOM Sources
The Voice of the Martyrs is calling on believers around the world to pray for Christians being affected by the continued unrest in Myanmar (Burma). According to VOM contacts, the government is targeting anyone with influence, and churches have not been spared. VOM contacts report, “Churches cannot meet. We are quietly meeting in small groups of no more than five to pray for our country. China reports five people have been killed, the British Broadcasting Corporation is saying about 10 have been killed, but our people have seen hundreds of bodies and many more filling the hospitals.” Pray for the protection and safety of Christians in Myanmar. Pray the Holy Spirit will convict the hearts of the government officials and that the testimony of believers will draw others into fellowship with Christ. Psalm 27:1, Joshua 1:9

Your prayers are really appreciated.

Giving Thanks, Continued Prayer

The following is from Voice of the Martyrs:

LAOS
Released Laotian Pastors Express Gratitude – VOM Sources
On August 14, The Voice of the Martyrs received a letter from Laotian Pastor Khamphuy, who was released from prison in May. Pastor Khamphuy wrote, “As one of 12 prisoners released in May, all of us want to express our appreciation for your prayers and support while we were in prison. Our wives told us that you sent help to our families and bought food and medicines for us. Thank you for sustaining our families while we were in prison.” Pastor Khamphuy and 11 other pastors were arrested after attending a Christian meeting on November 21, 2006. After the release of nine in May, three pastors still remain imprisoned. Khamphuy added, “Please continue to pray for Pastors Amkha, Bua and Van Thong and their families.” The Voice of the Martyrs encourages you to continue praying for the pastors in prison. Pray they will love their persecutors and have opportunities to share the love of Jesus with them. Also, pray for God’s protection for the released pastors and their families, as they continue preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ. Philippians 4:8, 1 Corinthians 15:57

We appreciate the gratitude the pastors have expressed.  Let’s show them our gratitude by continuing to pray for them in their release, be thankful with them, and also continue to pray for those who are still in “Chains”.

Australian Pastors Tried

The freedom we have in the United States is very often taken for granite.  However, we need to realize that it is not assured, especially in these days of religious plurality, political correctness, and the spread of immoral behavior.

Here is a recent News item from Voice of The Martyrs:

“UPDATE: AUSTRALIA — Pastors Danny Nalliah and Daniel Scott have settled the religious vilification case they had been fighting in Australia’s state of Victoria for the past five years.

According to a press release by the Victorian Civial and Administrative Tribunal, the Islamic Council of Victoria and Catch the Fire Ministries have agreed that citizens have the right to ‘robustly debate religion’ and ‘criticize religious beliefs’ within the limits of the law.  Terms of the settlement have yet to be disclosed.  The pastors have sepnt more than $500,000 defending their right to present their views and insights about Islam.

As a result of a complaint filed by the Islamic Council of Victoria, Pastors Danny Nalliah and Daniel Scott were the first to be found guilty of religious vilification under the Victorian Religious and Racial Tolerance Act which took effect at the start of 2002.  The complaint said that Scott and Nalliah had ‘vilified Muslims’ at a seminar on jihad on March 9, 2002.  The pastors were lecturing on the differences between Christianity and Islam, and quoted information about Islam directly from the Koran.

‘The shocking thing about this law is that truth is not a defense,’ said Todd Nettleton, a spokesperson for The Voice of the Martyrs.  ‘In the eyes of the law, it’s not a matter of whether or not these two men told the truth — they did — but whether someone felt bad about what they said.  This is such a subjective standard that the law almost invites misguided cases like this one’

Pray for Christians in Australia and other parts of the world to be bold witness for Christ despite attacks against them.”

To the request for prayer for “Christians in Australia and other parts of the world”, let us especially pray for the Christians of the United States to be prepared for what could happen here.

Christian Singer Freed

May 26, 2007 Tim A. Leave a comment

Again this is a post from VOICE OF THE MARTYRS News and Prayer Updat from November 14, 2006.

“Gospel singer Helen Berhane, who belonged to a banned evangelical church in Eritrea, has been released after more than two years in detention.  She was released in late October, according to a statement issued by Amnesty International.  Berhane was arrested in May 2004.  “She spent most of her detention in inhuman and degrading conditions inside a metal shipping container, which was used as a prison cell”, the statement said.  The authorities reportedly tortured her many times to make her recant her faith.  Give thanks to God Helen Berhane has been released at last.  Ask our merciful Father to hear her mind and body as she continues to be a witness for Christ.”

The reason for publishing these is to remind us that there are brothers and sisters being persecuted for the faith of Christ Jesus.  We need to continue praying for these who have been released, and for those who are still in chains.
