VOM–USA Prayer Update for November 6, 2009

The Voice of the Martyrs USA: www.persecution.com
“On his knees the believer is invincible.” C H Spurgeon
To the present hour we both hunger and thirst, and we are poorly clothed, and beaten, and homeless. And we labor, working with our own hands. Being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we endure; being defamed, we entreat. We have been made as the filth of the world, the offscouring of all things until now. 1 Corinthians 4:11-13

CHINA — Student Expelled for Confirming Faith in Christ — China Aid Association

Psalm 140: 12–13
I know that the LORD will maintain The cause of the afflicted, And justice for the poor. Surely the righteous shall give thanks to Your name; The upright shall dwell in Your presence.

On Oct. 20, Chen Le, a high school student, was expelled from Xinjiang High School for refusing to denounce his faith, according to China Aid Association. The High School Division of the Huashan Middle School expelled Chen after he signed a document confirming he was a Christian. ChinaAid reported that Chen Le does not regret signing the document confirming his faith in Jesus Christ. He continues to stand courageously for his faith, even though his expulsion means he is barred from college entrance exams. The Voice of the Martyrs encourages you to pray for Chen and his family during this challenging time. Praise God for his faithfulness. Ask God to protect and encourage him.

INDONESIA — Police Use Force to Evict Bible Students — VOM Contacts

Matthew 5: 10–12
Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven. “Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

On Oct. 27, The Voice of the Martyrs contacts reported nearly 1,000 students at the Arastamar School of Theology face eviction from a West Jakarta former Mayor’s office, where they were living temporarily. The day before students received the eviction notice from the High Court of West Jakarta, local government authorities cut off electricity and water to the site, leading to student demonstrations. “That day … a thousand students were demonstrating outside of the building and making [a barricade with their bodies] to prevent the police troops, local government security troops and High Court officials from going into the building and destroying the building,” VOM contacts said. “ The riot began when some people from the back row of police troops [threw] stones against the students; then the students repelled it by throwing plastic chairs and stones against the police troops,” VOM contacts added. Local government authorities have told the students to leave the building by Nov. 9 because the building will be destroyed. In July 2008, Muslim extremists destroyed the Bible school campus with Molotov cocktails. They also attacked the students with acid and machetes as they were being evacuated from the burning buildings. The staff and students from the Bible school’s campus were forced into temporary shelters all over the city including a camp ground in Kampung Pulo village. Pray for the students’ encouragement and protection. Praise God for their unwavering witness.

INDIA — Christians Targeted in Violent Attacks — VOM Contacts

Hebrews 10:32–39
“Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you. “You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men. “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

But recall the former days in which, after you were illuminated, you endured a great struggle with sufferings: partly while you were made a spectacle both by reproaches and tribulations, and partly while you became companions of those who were so treated; for you had compassion on me in my chains, and joyfully accepted the plundering of your goods, knowing that you have a better and an enduring possession for yourselves in heaven. Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise: “ For yet a little while, And He who is coming will come and will not tarry. Now the just shall live by faith; But if anyone draws back, My soul has no pleasure in him.” But we are not of those who draw back to perdition, but of those who believe to the saving of the soul.

VOM–USA Prayer Update for September 25, 2009

The Voice of the Martyrs USA: www.persecution.com
Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, Romans 5:1

INDIA — Church Damaged in Attack — VOM Conatcts

2 Corinthians 12:9-10
And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

On Sept. 9, St. Francis De Sales Church in Bangalore, India, was attacked by more than 15 Hindu extremists, according to The Voice of the Martyrs contacts. Extremists armed with weapons broke into the church, damaged window panes and statues inside the church. A house behind the church was damaged. The church has about 3,000 members who attend services conducted in different languages such as Tamil, Malayalam and English. Following the attack, the church priests, Father Aloysius and Father Selvaraj, filed a complaint with the police. The Voice of the Martyrs supports and assists persecuted believers in India. VOM ministers to persecuted believers by providing emergency medical treatment and ministry resources like motorbikes for pastors. Ask God to encourage the leaders and members of this church. Ask God to protect and encourage Christians in India as they share the Good News of Jesus.

PAKISTAN — Teenager Abducted by Muslims — VOM Contacts

Psalm 91:1-5
He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.” Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler[a] And from the perilous pestilence. He shall cover you with His feathers, And under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler. You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, Nor of the arrow that flies by day,

On Sept. 16, The Voice of the Martyrs received reports that Sidra, a Christian teenage girl, was abducted by Muslims in Pakistan. The Voice of the Martyrs contacts reported she was with family members when 16 Muslims isolated her and her brother, and then beat him badly and abducted her. Sidra’s father and mother are frantic and are requesting prayer for their daughter’s safe return. This is the second time Sidra has been abducted by Muslims. In February 2008, she was abducted while getting ready for school and was held in captivity for eight months. While being held Sidra was violated and Muslims attempted to force her to deny Christ, but she refused. Recently the family was holding prayer meetings in their neighborhood and praying for Muslims in their home. They believe this upset local Muslims and led to the abduction.

CHINA — Believers Assaulted, Church Destroyed — China Aid Association

2 Thessalonians 1:3-5
We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is fitting, because your faith grows exceedingly, and the love of every one of you all abounds toward each other, so that we ourselves boast of you among the churches of God for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that you endure, which is manifest evidence of the righteous judgment of God, that you may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you also suffer;

On Sept. 13, a mob of more than 400 people, including Chinese officials, barged into the Good News Cloth Shoes Factory on the site of the Fushan Church building in Linfin City, Shanxi province, according to China Aid Association. The officials used two construction vehicles to tear the building’s foundation and also attacked church members who were sleeping on the site. Believers were assaulted with bricks and other blunt objects. The attackers smashed windows, doors and appliances, and looted church members’ money, cell phones, clothes and books. They also stole the factory’s business license. At least ten church members were severely injured in the violence. Several were taken to the emergency room for treatment. However, the hospital was told by unidentified authorities to withhold medical treatment, including blood transfusions, from the injured church members. The factory’s electricity, water supply and telephone have been terminated and guards have been placed on-site to monitor the supply lines. The Voice of the Martyrs has supported persecuted believers in China for more than 30 years. Pray that the Lord will strengthen members of the Fushan Church in their hearts, minds and bodies as they face opposition for their faith. Pray that they will demonstrate Christ’s love and compassion to their persecutors.

YEMEN — Christian relief workers abducted and killed — VOM Canada

Philippians 4:7
and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

On June 12, nine Christian relief workers were abducted and three killed, reportedly because they were suspected of being involved in evangelistic work, according to VOMCanada. The Christians left the city of Sa’ada without an armed escort to visit a doctor who lived nearby, according to reports. The believers left the doctor’s home after two hours and eyewitnesses saw a group of armed men stop them. Investigators believe the kidnappers executed three of the hostages a short time later. At last report the other relief workers are still being held hostage and have been handed over to tribesmen. Two suspects have surrendered themselves to Yemeni authorities and have been arrested. It is also reported that local imams in the area were concerned that some of the relief workers were involved in evangelism while providing medical aid. Pray for the families of the deceased believers and protection for those who have been kidnapped. Thank God for the faithful lives and work of those killed. Pray that the remaining hostages will be released. Ask God to fill those in mourning with a peace that surpasses understanding in the midst of their grief. Pray for endurance and wisdom for those serving the Lord in Yemen.

PAKISTAN — Christian woman facing blasphemy charges —

Psalm 91:1-5
He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.” Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler And from the perilous pestilence. He shall cover you with His feathers, And under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler. You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, Nor of the arrow that flies by day,

Asia Bibi, a 37 year-old Christian woman was recently arrested by police on allegations of blasphemy in Punjab province, Pakistan. On June 19, some of the Muslim women who work with Bibi on a farm owned by a local Muslim engaged in a heated discussion with Bibi about Islam. Bibi told them that Christ died on the cross for their sins and asked them what Mohammed had done for them. “Our Christ is the true prophet of God and yours is not true,” Bibi said. The Muslim women became angry and began to beat her. Some men then locked her in a room and she was later arrested. At last report Bibi was being held at a police station and local Christians were urging the police not to file blasphemy charges. However, police claim that they must go forward due to pressure from local Muslim leaders. Pray that Bibi will be released. Pray for strength for Bibi’s family. Ask God to give boldness to Christians in Pakistan as they witness to their Muslim neighbors.

INDIA — Churches Attacked, Believers Beaten — VOM Contacts

Psalm 23
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

In recent weeks, The Voice of the Martyrs has received several reports of violence against Christians. On May 5, Hindu extremists attacked approximately 200 Christians gathered together for a meeting in Mumbai. Extremists forcefully entered the building, blocked the exits and ordered the believers to chant “Jai Shri Ram” (Praise Lord Ram). Those who refused were beaten. Several were injured, including a 5-year-old girl and a pastor who required five stitches in his head. Meanwhile, on May 5, a church building was set on fire by Hindu extremists in Andhra Pradesh state. Neighbors alerted the pastor and church members of the fire and by the time they arrived on the scene the furniture, pulpit, carpet and audio equipment had been destroyed. Also, on May 7, Hindu extremists disrupted a prayer meeting held in a home in Madhya Pradesh state. The extremists shouted abuses and assaulted the believers present. One believer suffered a broken arm. Five of the believers were arrested and taken to a police station. All were granted bail the next day. Pray for peace in India. Pray for healing for injured believers. Ask God to strengthen Christians in India to continue to be salt and light in the midst of oppression.

TURKMENISTAN — Formerly Imprisoned Christian Under Fire — Forum 18 News

2 Thessalonians 1:5
which is manifest evidence of the righteous judgment of God, that you may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you also suffer;

Authorities have threatened to seize the property of a formerly imprisoned Christian man unless he pays a large sum of money they claim he acquired illegally in 1995, according to Forum18 News. Shageldy Atakov was imprisoned in 1999 on charges of swindling another individual out of US$12,000 during a car deal. Atakov and other local Christians maintain that the charges were fabricated in order to stop his Christian activity. While in detention at the Seydi Labour Camp, Atakov was beaten repeatedly, received inadequate medical attention, poor diet and given psychotropic [mind-altering] drugs for refusing to abandon his faith. He was released in January 2002. He served the full prison sentence, thus he is already cleared of the alleged debt now being demanded by authorities. On April 29, a local official visited his home in order to assess the value of their property and examine ownership documents. Pray that all false allegations against Atakov will cease. Pray for strength and protection for Atakov and his family. Pray that Christians facing trials in Turkmenistan will remember that they will be counted worthy of the kingdom of God for which they are suffering.

INDONESIA — Christian Families Driven Out of Their Villages — VOM Sources

Psalm 29:11
The LORD will give strength to His people; The LORD will bless His people with peace.

Two families were driven from their villages in West Java, Indonesia, in March after they converted to Christianity from Islam, according to The Voice of the Martyrs contacts. When one family returned home from a mass baptism, their landlord asked them to vacate his property they were renting. He was angry because they were now Christians. “The Muslim leaders [in the village] supported the land owners to drive out the family,” VOM contacts reported. “The husband and father [was] also fired from his job because they had converted to Christianity.” Meanwhile, on March 19, another family in a different village in West Java was also evicted from their home after being baptized. “They were summoned by a Muslim leader [in the village] and told they should leave the village because Christians make the village unclean,” VOM contacts added. Pray for these families and many believers in Indonesia who face persecution because of their faith.

CHINA – Pastor Bike Arrested – China Aid Association

1 Peter 2:20-21

For what credit is it if, when you are beaten for your faults, you take it patiently? But when you do good and suffer, if you take it patiently, this is commendable before God. For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps:

On March 21, Chinese police arrested Pastor “Bike” Zhang Mingxuan, leader of the Chinese House Church Alliance, in Yanjiao town, Hebei province, according to China Aid Association. Pastor Zhang was staying at the home of a local Christian when more than a dozen police officers arrived. The authorities took Pastor Zhang to the local police station where he was searched, interrogated and threatened with death. Bank cards and three cell phones were confiscated. Three hours later, Pastor Zhang was handed over to Public Security Bureau officials who questioned him about his recent travels. Pastor Zhang’s belongings were eventually returned, except the debit card for an account containing 150,000 Yuan (US$1,499). He was released later that day. Pray for strength and protection for Pastor Zhang. Pray that he and other believers facing trials for their faith will find comfort in the fact that God commends those who suffer for doing good.

Deuteronomy 11:18-20

“Therefore you shall lay up these words of mine in your heart and in your soul, and bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. Three believers who were visiting from the capital city of Baku were taken to a police station and questioned for four hours. When they went to the station the next day to pick up their identification documents, they were fined for “illegally spreading Christianity and other faiths.” Pray that Christian parents will demonstrate an unwavering commitment to Christ and continue to teach their children about the Lord. Pray that religious freedom will be respected in Azerbaijan.

1 Peter 5:10-11

CHINA – Pastor Remains in Custody Despite Insufficient Evidence – China Aid Association

China Aid Association reports that Pastor Lou Yuanqi remains in prison despite a judge’s verdict of “insufficient evidence.” Pastor Yuanqi was arrested in May 2008 and charged with “inciting separatism.” Following his trial on Dec. 15, his 18-year-old daughter was beaten by Chinese police when she tried to speak to her father. Pray for this family as it deals with these challenges. Ask God to touch Pastor Yuanqi’s body as he suffers from hepatitis B and harsh prison conditions have made his health worse. Pray he will have opportunities to share the gospel with his persecutors.

MALAYSIA – Christian’s Faith Recognized in a Muslim Court – VOM Canada

On March 6, in a rare victory for religious minorities in Malaysia, 60-year-old Mohammad Shar, who is known as Gilbert Freeman, was legally recognized as a non-Muslim by an Islamic court. Freeman brought his case to the Sharia court in Negeri Sembilan state after the National Registration Department refused to acknowledge his Christian faith when he applied for a new identity card. Freeman was raised a Christian by his mother after his Muslim father abandoned the family when Freeman was only two months old. As a result, the judge ruled that Freeman had never been a Muslim and his identity card could therefore be changed. The court also found no evidence that Freeman’s parents were ever legally married. Praise the Lord that Freeman’s faith has been recognized in this way. Pray for protection for him and thank God for his boldness and courage. Ask God for increased religious freedom in Malaysia.

1 Corinthians 15:57

INDIA – Pastor Shot and Christians Injured in Bomb Attack – VOM Sources

On March 8, Pastor Vinod Kumar James was shot dead and four Christians were injured following a bomb attack on a church in Bihar state, India, according to The Voice of the Martyrs contacts. The pastor had gathered in the church along with 70 others to pray when Rajesh Singh hurled a bomb through the church’s window. “When the believers ran for cover and tried to come out of the church, Singh stopped them at gunpoint and shot James in his abdomen,’’ VOM contacts said. James was sent to the hospital in critical condition. The four others who sustained injuries in the bomb attack were also admitted to a local hospital. Police arrested Singh and recovered four bombs and a homemade pistol in his possession. Singh told local journalists that he attacked the church to protest against the “forcible religious conversions” by Christian missionaries in the area. Pray for safety for believers in this area. Ask God to give them boldness to continue sharing the gospel despite this attack. Thank God for their faithfulness.

“…I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you…” Matthew 5:44 PAKISTAN — Islamic Extremists Beat Evangelist, Steal Rickshaw – VOM Sources

On Jan. 26, evangelist Azir was kicked and punched in the face by Muslim extremists after transporting Christians and evangelizing tools on his Scripture-covered rickshaw. The Voice of the Martyrs contacts report Azir was assaulted while returning from a Bible and Christian literature distribution in Punjab, Pakistan. Azir helped transport believers home in his motorcycle rickshaw, given to him by VOM in March 2008. “After the distribution and a blessed time with the people, the team returned to his village. Azir helped believers to get to their home. They were holding their Bibles, leadership materials, He Lived Among Us and Action Packs. This drew the anger of local Muslims who saw them,” VOM contacts said. “Then they beat him. They kicked and punched his face. His tooth was broken and he had a small injury on his lips. They snatched his rickshaw, thank God he was not seriously hurt,” VOM contacts added. Following the intervention of a village leader, Azir’s rickshaw was returned. VOM encourages you to pray for evangelist Azir and other believers in Pakistan. Praise God for their faithfulness and courage in the midst of persecution. Ask God to continue strengthening them and for blessings on Azir’s rickshaw business.

At least three more Christians have been killed in the widespread violence that began seven weeks ago in Orissa state’s Kandhamal district. On Oct. 1, an elderly Christian, Lalji Nayak, died from axe wounds he received when a mob of Hindu extremists attacked the village of Hrudangia. His wife, also attacked with an axe, was seriously injured in the head, and his brother was hospitalized with multiple gunshot wounds. Meanwhile on Oct. 2, two men were dragged out of their home in Sindhipankha village, shot and then dismembered. The assailants also massacred cattle belonging to believers and burned homes owned by Christians. Approximately 400 homes have been set on fire by extremists in Kandhamal and Boudh districts over the past week. Pray that those who mourn will find peace in the fact that those who have suffered with Christ will be glorified with Him. Pray for healing for those injured. Pray that Christians in India will continue to live as cross-bearing disciples and remain steadfast in faith at all cost.

SOMALIA – Church Destroyed by Islamic Extremists – VOM Sources

On Sept. 30, Muslim extremists demolished a Catholic church in Kismayo, a town in southern Somalia, VOM sources reported. The area has been in the control of a militant Islamic organization affiliated with Al-Qaeda since August. The militants have vowed to launch similar attacks on all other local non-Muslim places of worship. They plan to replace the destroyed church with a mosque. Islamists have reportedly imposed Sharia law in Celwaq, another southern town, elevating concern for Christians in the region. Pray that the believers in Somalia will be steadfast in their service for the Lord. Pray that they will rejoice in the opportunity to grow in Christ likeness through their tribulations.

Prayer Update for October 6, 2008

October 10, 2008 Tim A. 1 comment

The United States of America and the world are experiencing what some are calling financial chaos.  “Wall Street melt down” is a phrase which is being used.  Whether some will realize it or not – most will not – there are worse things that happen in this world than the collapse of the economy.  What about the collapse of marriage or marriages, family, moral values, and faith in God?

There are people in other parts of the world who are not affected by this economy problem in the least, and they are and have been suffering for their faith in Jesus Christ.  There is an element of good news in the following prayer update; “Two Iranian Christians have been released from prison”.

Let’s remember to pray for our brothers and sisters in Christ who have no wealth in this economy, but their wealth is in the faith of Jesus Christ; and for those who have faith and are counted worthy to suffer for the name of Jesus.

IRAN – Two Iranian Christians released from prison – VOM Sources

UPDATE: Praise God! The Voice of the Martyrs contacts report that on Sept. 25 two Christians, Mahmood Matin Azad and Arash Basirat, were released from prison in Shiraz. “A reliable source reported the two men appeared before a local judge and they have been released. The families are very grateful for your prayer support. Please continue to pray for their recovery and safety,” VOM contact said. Azad and Basirat were arrested on May 15 and charged with apostasy. Believers around the world had expressed concern for them because of the impending law in Iran that makes death the only punishment for apostasy. VOM actively supports persecuted believers in Iran and provides resources for them to share the gospel and disciple new converts. Pray for the safety of Azad and Basirat and ask God to use their testimony to bring their persecutors into the knowledge of Jesus Christ.

KENYA – Muslim Youth Attack Church – Compass Direct News

Compass Direct News reported that more than 49 Muslim youth stormed into The Redeemed Gospel Church in Garissa, Kenya, on Sept. 14 and attacked those present. The mob threw stones at the congregation, damaged pews and walls, destroyed the pulpit and burned a church banner. The attack was sparked by tensions between local Muslims and Christians over a mosque that was constructed three meters from the church building in June 2007. When the mosque was constructed Christians complained that it blocked the church’s entryway. Local authorities proposed Christians relocate to a new worship site, but the believers refused to do so, arguing that the solution was only temporary. At last report, the Christians were being prevented from returning to the ransacked church building and did not have a new building in which to worship. Pray that believers will be encouraged to continue meeting together for worship despite opposition. Pray that Christ will work in the hearts of those who oppose Him, so that they, too, will know the Good news.

INDIA – UPDATE – Christians Targeted by Bombs – VOM Sources Orissa

The Voice of the Martyrs contacts in Orissa state report hat three relief camps housing Christians in Kandhamal district were bombed on the evening of Sept. 29. The explosions began at 7:00 p.m. and bombs went off in the villages of Nuagoan and Mahasinghi and the town of Baliguda. VOM contacts believe Hindu extremists are responsible for the attack. For the sixth week, extremists have continued to use violence and intimidation against Christians in relief camps, in an attempt to forcibly convert believers to Hinduism. Several Christian families in the camps have succumbed to pressure form extremists and “reconverted” to Hinduism in exchange for being allowed to return to their homes in Ladapadar village. Fresh violence also persists outside the Kandhamal camps, including the burning and bombing of homes and church buildings. Pray for safety and protection for believers in the relief camps. Pray that Christians in India will stand firm in their faith despite severe pressure to deny Christ.

Christian Detained on Terrorism Charges – Forum 18 News

On June 14, eight police officers claiming to be conducting an identity check, raided the home of Jandos Kuandikov in Nukus, Karakalpakstan, an autonomous region of Uzbekistan, where several Christians were gathered to prepare for a wedding. According to Forum18 News, “Kuandikov was not home at the time, but when he returned he asked the police for a warrant authorizing their action. None was provided. Police demanded statements [proving] that a religious meeting was not being conducted but the family refused. Police then accused Kuandikov of being a terrorist and [a] Wahhabi (a form of Islam found predominantly in Saudi Arabia). The police continued their search and interrogation throughout the day and then took several of those present to the police station. All but [a Christian named] Aimurat Khayburahmanov, were eventually released. At last report, Khayburahmanov remained in detention on false charges of terrorism.” Pray Uzbek Christians will be able to bless and pray for those who falsely accuse them. Pray for Aimurat Khayburahmanov to be released. Luke 6:27-28

Christian Detained on Terrorism Charges – Forum 18 News

On June 3, a newly converted Christian couple in Iran was arrested by police for holding Bible studies with Muslims in their home, and attending a house church. According to Compass Direct News, “Makan Arya and Tina Rad were seized from their home in east Tehran after one of Makan’s relatives informed security police of the couple’s Christian activities. Their 4-year-old daughter was left behind, ill and unattended. The couple was taken to an unknown jail where they were severely beaten and interrogated for four days.” Compass reported, “Makan was accused of ‘activities against national security’ and Tina of ‘activities against the holy religion of Islam.’ The authorities threatened to take their daughter away to a religious institution and warned they could be imprisoned on charges of apostasy or fabricated drug charges if they didn’t stop their Christian work.” The report added that eventually the couple was pressured into signing a statement claiming they had not changed their religion from Islam and promising that they would stay away from their house church and other Christians. “After a court hearing, Makan was freed on bail charges of US $19,634 and Tina upon payment of US $29,451. The couple returned home to find that the window of their shop had been smashed by local Muslims. On June 23, Makan received a letter threatening him with continued attacks if he did not put up evidence of his Islamic faith on the front of his shop, to which he responded by hanging pictures of Muslim leaders on his window,” Compass added. Ask God to strengthen the hearts of these believers to proclaim His Name without hesitation or fear. Pray for healing, especially for Tina who currently cannot walk as a result of her mistreatment in detention. Luke 6:27-28

CHINA

Christian Couple Arrested, Tortured and Threatened – Compass Direct News

On July 2, Public Security Bureau (PSB) police officers evicted prominent house church leader, Pastor Hua Huiqi and his family from their home in Beijing, China. According to China Aid Association (CAA), “Hua and his family were resting in their rental apartment when PSB officials led by Officer Yang Jian, used a 10-pound hammer to break down the doors and locks of the apartment. Hua’s brother was beaten by police officers and suffered severe damage to his eye. Hua and his family, including his 90-year-old father, were forced onto the street with their furniture. They are currently in search of a new home and are being hosted by a Christian family in Beijing.” According to CAA, “The Chinese government has expressed its intentions to either detain Hua until September 30, a date well after the Olympics, or to remove Hua and his family completely out of Beijing during the Games. The Chinese government had branded Hua and other human rights and religious activists as ‘troublemakers’ and is adamant about keeping such people from attending the Games in August.” Praise God for Pastor Hua and his family’s faithfulness. Ask God to watch over his family, especially his elderly parents who are great examples of faith and courage. Ask the Holy Spirit to convict the persecutors and draw them into the knowledge of Jesus Christ. Isaiah 40:29-31

Those of us who are Christians know that pastors cannot force conversions.  Conversion to Christ comes only by Christ Himself.  When a man or woman, boy or girl meet Jesus through faith, He changes them into a growing image of Himself.

Let’s be faithful.
